Rotary Goes to Nicaragua

On August 1, members of Wood County and Parkersburg Rotary Clubs went to Nicaragua for a week to help with a Medical mission and to do a needs analysis with the Rotary Club of Matagalpa. We met this little girl on our visit!
North Parkersburg Baptist Church along with other churches have established a clinic in Maganua which is housed in this building. We are piggy backing on their contacts in Nicaragua. After many airline problems we arrived and immediately joined a medical group from Huntington, West Virgina in this clinic. Also we were able to deliver a package of anesthetics to the children's hospital in Magnua.
We went by bus to Matagalpa and stayed in Selva Negra at an ecotourist farm in the mountains. We went futher in the mountains by bus to Rancho Grande where we met with over 300 people to help with their medical needs.
The next day we went even further by going by bus to Rancho Grande again and then going by horseback to Cerro Verde. There we again helped over 300 people with their medical needs.
We appreciated the support of a grant from Rotary International, our district, and lots of help from several clubs in our district. We have begun to plan future projects to work with the Rotary Club in Matagalpa. Here we are exchanging banners.
