While this was the fifth year that the Wood County and Parkersburg Rotary Clubs provided medical treatment with doctors, nurses, and medicines, it was also a year we provided water purification equipment.

Here four engineering students from WVU, Rodney and Dr Lin were the water purification team. Two blue barrel filters were installed in the feeding centers with materials for two more. Also two chlorinators that run continuously on locally available materials. Engineers Without Borders provided sponsorship.

This is a water test that shows the presence of E-Coli bacteria. The long term commitment allows Rotary to provide help that solves long term problems. Next year Rotary will follow up on the success of the filtration and chlorination.

The group conducted four clinics reaching about 1200 people. This time there were two doctors and two nurse practitioners, each with a translator. They prescribed  medicines for the patients which the team had brought.

This young man was very happy to be next in line!

In Managua many of the patients were bused from the dump to get medical attention.

Here Dr Avery is working with a happy customer.

Every year we have 20+ participants--Interact students, college students, families, Rotarians, retirees--as well as doctors and nurses. If you find that you want to change your life and maybe your view of the world contact either the Rotary Club of Parkersburg or Rotary Club of Wood County.
