Ed Dils
Edwin L. D. ils symbolizes community service. Throughout his life, he has generously provided many organizations with his time, his talents, and his dedication to service in the community.

  Born April 26, 1922 and raised in the Parkersburg area, Mr. Dils attended Wood County schools and graduated vrom Parkersburg High School in June of 1940. Following graduation, he attended Yale University, where he received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Administration. Dils also attended the University of Kentucky, MIT and Cambridge University in England while serving as a staff sergeant in the 78th Infantry Division’s Field Artillery during WW II. He went on to attend Harvard Graduate School of Business where he earned a Veterans Certificate in 1947.

  Mr. Dils began working for the family business in June 1947, The Dils Brothers & Company Department Store, holding several positions over the years including Controller, Treasurer, President, and Director, retiring in January 1988 when it closed. He also has served as a Director of the Community Bank of Parkersburg, the President of the Interstate Dry Good Syndicate, and the President of the West Virginia Retailers Association, and he was on the Board of Directors at the National Retail Dry Goods Association.

  Mr. Dils has been influential in the creation and growth of many organizations in our community, including the YMCA, Chamber of Commerce, the Parkersburg Rotary Club, Wood County Development Authority, and Area Roundtable. Mr. Dils played a key role in the founding of the Parkersburg Area Community Foundation and was an early member of the PHS Stadium Renovation Committee and the PHS Foundation.


Dils has served as a member of the board of advisors for Ohio Valley University, the board of trustees for WV Wesleyan College and on the WVU Council for Economic Education. He is a past member and vice chairman of the West Virginia United Methodist Charities Foundation and a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church. He has previously been honored with the WV Governor’s award in 2000 and the Order of the 35th Star.

He is the proud father of four children, 12 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He and his wife Jane will celebrate their 64th wedding anniversary in August 2010.
